Hi all, I’m considering an AUSA position in the Superior Court Division in D.C. Does anyone have insight into the career outcomes for this role? How common (or feasible) is it to move over to the federal side afterward? How selective/prestigious is the program, and what kinds of exit opportunities does it typically lead to? Thanks in advance!

I'm in the federal government now, and I get the sense it's all about scarcity of positions.

Nowadays, AUSAs are resigning and there are many openings. So the Superior Court position may make you look good.

Normally, there are only 1-3 openings, so the competition is stiffer. That's all.

So it's risky to bank on exit options normally, but now it may be a good gamble.

The normal assumption is that every job is a dead-end job.

I have about 10 YOE after law school and a lot of trial experience. Do they start everybody in the superior court or can you go directly into a specialized unit?
