Covington DC vs. DPW/S&C NYC (FinReg)

Very grateful to have these options. I really like NYC and want to stay here for at least a few years. That being said, I'd like to maximize chances of heading into government down the road, so still considering Covington in DC, even though it's lower-ranked on Chambers. Is there any tangible boost from actually practicing in DC in this area before pivoting to an agency?

Also, DPW and S&C are both Chambers Band 1 when it comes to this sort of work, but does anyone have any insight into the differences between the two? I looked through some recent threads that say DPW has outpaced everyone else in the fin reg space, but I don't know how accurate that is.

In addition, from talking to people at both firms, it sounds like, unlike DPW, S&C won't let associates do pure bank reg work? So I'd still have to function as an M&A or cap markets junior at S&C...while the DPW folks more so serve only as reg counsel on the deals they're on. At least that was the impression I got.

Would appreciate any advice on this (i.e., choosing between DPW/S&C or NYC/DC). Thanks!

S&C takes the whole generalist thing seriously so you're definitely getting good intel there but I'd be surprised if any DPW 1st-years are billing more than 1000 hours a year to "pure" bankreg tasks/matters. Banking reg groups are tiny and there's not necessarily a lot of work for juniors to do.
