Apologies if this was discussed somewhere else in the forum, but I ran searches and could not find any information.

Does anyone have any insight in to the "practice area attorney" role at Cravath? I can't really tell if they're staff attorneys (that focus on discovery or specialized procedural issues in certain regulatory areas), non-partner track associates, or something else. Some of them seem senior, but they're not counsel or of counsel. A recruiter suggested that this may be an option in my practice area. (To clarify, I am not actively on the job market; a recruiter I've spoken with in the past reached out to me.)

I'm pretty sure it's a non-partner track position that's specialized in a certain subject matter area (a fancier version of staff attorney), of counsel is non-partner track but a senior attorney role, and I think counsel is partner-track senior attorney role.... But Cravath has changed its non-partner attorney's titles so much that who knows... this is my last understanding of what that title means, but it might've changed.

It's a non-partner track position, but the nature of the role is individualized. People who are part-time or who are fully remote have that title but so are laterals who come in very senior and are therefore treated (and paid) like senior associates.
