Summer Sidley Scandal

Each year, I am astounded by the kind of drama that mucks up by summers. This year, a summer brought his girlfriend (now ex) to a firm event at the start of the summer. Summer is now engaged to another summer in the firm. Not a great look considering that associates suspect that a little cheating happened

That's not really a scandal. There's like a 99% chance it blows up in their face, but it's definitely not the sorta thing that matters

We’re at week 9 and they’re engaged? Ridiculous lmao. When’s the wedding, next Tuesday?

This is not a scandal nor anything anyone outside of them should care about.

I have zero respect for cheaters but also fail to see how someone's relationship status, or gossip about suspected misconduct related to same, has any bearing on their professional life. This doesn't belong on this forum and I kinda wonder why OP decided to publicly grind their axe.

Yikes, it sounds like the body was still warm (metaphorically). Definitely not a good look on C&F for either of them.

How on earth would this even come up on C&F?

This whole thread is so pathetic. Two twenty-seven year olds fell in love. Life isn’t perfect, and neither are we.

Whatever. Maybe it was meant to be. The literal first time I saw my fiancé I thought to myself "that's my person." I could just feel it. Never felt that way about anyone before. Who knows, maybe they just saw each other and knew? Most of the time it doesn't work out with shot gun weddings, but sometimes you get that rare couple that makes it work for 99 years. We don't even know how disrespectfully he went about it, there's a possibility he was honest with all parties and/or they had an open relationship to start. Tons of factors make this boring gossip. Quoth the eldest of the Kardashian line: "Kim, there's people that are dying."

Serious question. Was the proposal a big thing and/or at a firm-related event. A friend of mine met his fiance at a biglaw firm and he was going to propose to her outside the conference hall in the Biglaw office they just met and I knew she would probably kill him if he did that so he just did at another way more meaningful place (very specific and way too doxy to give specifics, but it was decidedly nothing to do with being a lawyer or working in Biglaw).

Oh TLS. Do you guys just get off thinking that you’re being contrarians? If OP had said it wasn’t a big deal then the comments would be up in arms. It’s flatly unprofessional to publicly date a fellow summer intern and to publicly propose within an 8 week span, especially after having introduced your ex-gf to your coworkers mere weeks before. Indicates a wild lack of judgment and wouldn’t be surprised if that lack of judgment manifested in other ways during their summer experiences, too.

Lol, what does someone’s romantic life have to do with their professionalism, if there aren’t other issues (of which we don’t have any evidence?).

It’s obviously a big deal to the ex, the summer, and the current fiancée. It’s not a big deal to the law firm.

i think it's consistent to personally disagree with the behavior and maybe conclude it reflects poorly in some quasi-professional sense, and also not wish to participate in an online kangaroo court about someone's romantic life

I don’t even see why it’s unprofessional. Do you think the partners at Sidley are unaware that the romantic lives of twenty year old people are tumultuous and dramatic?

Calling it "flatly unprofessional" to love a different person today than you did 8 weeks ago does not make it so, even if - like a normal human being - you previously introduced colleagues to your former loved one.

What would be flatly unprofessional would be gossiping about your colleague because their love life doesn't conform to your idea of what is right and proper, and not just insinuating but stating right out that you think their love life has some bearing on their professionalism.
