Government Trial Lawyer wants to go to private practice. Please help me with tips or suggestions?

I've got 10ish years as a litigator/trial lawyer and am currently in a prosecution unit of DOJ. I've got a couple good high profile cases on my resume and I have solid trial experience: 10 federal trials, two of them were multiple weeks long, and 1 was months long. I went from clerkship to DOJ honors and I have never been in private practice. I am not in a management position.

I want to go into the private sector and I am interested in both in-house positions as well as law firm positions.

Does anybody have any tips or suggestions of what firms I should look at? What about going in-house? Any tips or companies to think about? Alternatively, if my resume isn't right for a jump yet, what can I do to improve it?

Also, I don't currently live in California but I have ties there and would like to end up there if possible.
