Firms with no recruiting contact/career page; how to apply?

For firms that are actively hiring (because of news articles about recent hires) and at which I have no alumni connections, I typically look to recruiting contacts/career pages/NALP, etc. for a place to send my application. Some of these firms don't have any established contact. Should I just call the firm and ask for the best person to send my materials to?

In doing so, what all should I say? "Hi, my name is X, I'm an attorney and am interested in joining your firm. Who do you recommend I forward my resume to?"

I would reach out to an associate to ask to chat about their firm experience, they may end up passing along your materials.

Alternatively, if it is a small office I would send your suggested email to the office's managing partner.

If its a larger office, I would look for some sort of HR contact.
