Can anyone confirm? Its a big topic on fishbowl that Skadden is now requiring 4 days per week in office. But no one has confirmed. Any insight welcomed.

They will be announcing this at the state of the firm on 5/31. Anyone's guess as to what cheeses will accompany the announcement.

Can we get a French-esk Revolution going at Skadden if this happens? Thanks.

Heard new news. Can we get Skadden associates to confirm? 4 days a week, including Mondays.

Confirmed. Monday-Thursday starting September 5. You can pick 3 weeks in August to be fully remote.

Big if true. I expect a number of NYC firms will follow suit once this is public.

It's real.

fuck skadden.

i hope this is not the beginning of the end, with firms following them to 4 days then 5, and 7 if we let them get away with it.

From the Law.com article:
“. . . by affording attorneys the flexibility to work remotely on Fridays and during specified periods throughout the year, our modified hybrid work model will harness the best aspects of remote working while fueling innovation and professional development through more frequent in-person collaboration.”

I know that in all likelihood, this quote from Skadden was written by a human being versed in bland corporate Newspeak, but it truly sounds like it was written by ChatGPT. This statement (and the policy itself) is BLEAK.

Nobody here cares what the associates think. Get back into the office or get your bonus cut or fired.

How is this enforced?

Interesting no one else has followed suit. I mean really, what's the difference between 3 days and 4. Why go to 4? Now you're just looking stupid and out in the cold.

It’s just a matter of time; I would expect other NY white shoes to eventually follow suit. (Perhaps waiting until September so they can pitch it as, “OK, you had your summer fun — time to hunker down.”)

Weird that firms would double down on sunk costs in the short term instead of moving to significantly reduce office footprints as their leases expire and save money

How quickly everything can change--but DPW shouldn't take anything for granted. Just ask the many de-funk companies that failed to adapt or change.

What's the etymology of "de-funk"? seems like an incredibly interesting word.

Context clues from prior anon tell you all you need to know: A company or firm can't survive once it loses its funk. In its post-funk state, it has become de-funk.

I'm at V10 that hasn't announced a RTO policy formally - lately I havent been coming in all that much. Do we think these firms are tracking attendance at this point - i just get the feeling everyone is too busy to do something that anal-retentive.

eh, none of them wanted WFH, there was no organic culture change leading to it. Not surprising that they want to bring the office back.
