I honestly can't remember half of the shit that I worked on last summer. Is this an issue, and if so, how do I solve it

assuming you've tried reaching out to your old firm hr and partners you worked for, have your new firm reach out to them

I had this happen. If you are still close with any of the junior associates at the old firm, you MAY be able to ask them for a list. This assumes that such list would be easily accessible to associates. It was when this happened to me. A friendly junior understood and helped me out.
I’ve never heard the advice about asking your new firm to contact your old firm. But I’m this instance (where you are a student), it seems totally appropriate.
