Also at Latham though admittedly not in NY. We hired lateral associates in Q3 and Q4 and partners seem more concerned with departures after bonus season than laying anybody off. Guess we'll see.

After making their name a verb following layoffs almost 15 years ago, I cannot imagine a plausible scenario in which LW makes meaningful layoffs, barring absolute economic carnage and a "necessary to save the firm" situation.

I, a senior associate at a peer(-ish) of Latham, personally know of one who was laid off. 8th year lit I believe, strong evals according to him and had been there a while. Do not know whether it’s part of anything bigger, or just a “yeah partner won’t happen let’s figure out what’s next” thing, or what. I believe they were generous with website time and such.

That’s probably more a you do great work but you’re not getting counsel or partner type of deal. That’s typical for 8th+ senior associates at any firm honestly, and firms generally are not focused on litigation as much anymore too (just look at the amount of lit partners v corporate in each V10’s new class of partners).
I’m a 7th year at a non-NY office and there are no indications of any layoffs. We are in fact hiring laterals like crazy at all levels (including counsel and partners). There will be normal attrition at the end of the month once bonuses are paid, and I’m sure some poor performers have been told to leave as is typical at any firm.
M&A is picking up speed like crazy this year so I would expect layoff anxiety at all firms will dip going forward, at least in M&A.
