Hi,

Was wanting to transfer offices and stay at the same BigLaw firm I am currently at. (NYC to Texas) Was wondering how to go about this?

From my personal experience, I just went to the partner who I worked with most who also was the main partner of the group. Indicated my wish and also the why (family reasons). They'll probably say what they think is possible, but also that they have to look into it some more and check in with the other office to see as to their openings. Check back in a week or two later to see if they know more.

My mistake with this was that I trusted the partner to take care of it so I didn't follow up until months later (I was still a fresh associate, so I didn't want to be a hassle during the busy times). It all worked out for me, but if the move is important, I'd make sure to keep on checking every couple weeks, especially if the contact partner is somebody who isn't the most persistent type (aka, somebody who'd forget and let it fall to the wayside).
