Do firms check your other offers?

I went to an offer lunch this week and one of the partners asked what my other offers were? I was a bit taken aback by the question and instead of replying with my actual other offers I fudged and told her a firm I was still waiting on (not sure exactly why I did this - just felt uncomfortable). She went on to point out the differences between the two and we moved on. do you think she will call the firm to confirm I have an offer there? lol as I know this sounds crazy
