Summer Associate Applying to Other Firms

Neurotic question. I'm currently a summer associate at a V100 in a major city. I really would like to return to that law firm--more than anything. I'm afraid of getting no-offered (with absolutely no basis to suspect that I will be). Driven by that neuroticism, I applied to another V100 in a different city for a post-3L full-time position. I'm now nervous that my firm will find out that I applied to another firm and think that I don't like it there; result in a self-fulfilling destiny. Will my application be kept confidential? Do I have reason to worry?

Probably not.

You're fine.

It's totally okay to feel neurotic. You are actively being gaslit by your summer firm into thinking everything is great there (it isnt) and OCI is telling you that soooooo many bad things will happen if you fuck up this summer hiring process. You feel alone and there isn't a lot of information about this stuff.

Yeah, the attorney recruting manager MIGHT be best friends, but even then they probably won't reach out unless there is some hugeeee red-flag reason.

You will get an offer from your firm. Everyone worries about not getting an offer. Do your fellow summers a favor and don't feed into that stress of "I am worried I wont get an offer!" talk. If you hear it coming up, change the convo.

Keep applying to your dream firm.

I reneged three times. Noone ever found out, or mentioned it to me, or cared. I know a few people who have done the same.
