In DC: Hogan Lovells v Paul Hastings v Sidley

I'm interested in doing either trade or investigations (FCPA) work and all three firms have these groups. I know about their groups' Chambers rankings, but say I just want to maximize *preftige* and set myself up for the best possible lateralling opportunities/post biglaw career, how would you rank these three firms?

I'm only interested in DC offices, fwiw.

For investigations (assuming you mean white-collar/government investigations and not FCPA) and trade, I'd say Hogan would be strongly in first, followed by Sidley, then PH.

Thank you. I was thinking more of FCPA actually. Should have specified.

Well, I think you'd probably want to decide whether you're more interested in FCPA work or trade/export controls. Paul Hastings' FCPA practice groups is very well respected. While Hogan's trade group is better respected than PH's, PH's trade group can hold its own. However, if you're really just most interested in prestige, then Hogan edges out Sidley in terms of D.C. prestige, and both are seen as more prestigious firms than Paul Hastings. So, it just depends what you're really prioritizing (practice groups "prestige" or firm prestige).

Hogan would be the best in DC among those firms for just generally setting yourself up as well as possible. I’m not familiar with the groups in question, and Sid/PH are obviously not slouches but HL would be on top pretty clearly for “prestige” here.
