Now that he's leaving Kirkland, what's next? Any guesses? Who's gonna get to hire the biggest name in appellate litigation?

He's already announced he's starting a boutique.

Boutique is the only thing that makes sense. Allows him to do his ultraconservative passion projects without the headline risk that mainline firms care about it. He did it this way before.

After his SG service, I was waiting for my appellate oral argument and got to watch one of his. He read his notes for the whole argument. Very underwhelming. (Nevertheless, I'm sure he still billed at $2,500 per hour.)

I find that a lot with big names. Sometimes they were never that great. Sometimes they were and now just phone it in sometimes. And rarely, they are great every time. I tend to find the big names in PI to be great every time because actual skill was necessary to make the money rather than being in the right place at the right time doing the right type of work.

He's more on his toes in front of SCOTUS. I listen to his arguments on Oyez sometimes to see his style, and its definitely excellent.
