Chance of big laws in NYC

I'm a rising 2L at a law school in Boston (BU/BC). No connections to the NY market. With a 3.7, roughly top 15% of the class, which NYC big laws should I aim for to have a realistic shot of getting in?

Apply straight down the Vault list during pre-OCI.

Current 3L at one of those schools currently summering at a NY V50. You're competitive for pretty much all NY firms outside of Cravath, Wachtell, or the elite litigation boutiques (I wouldn't say it's impossible but I've just never met anyone going to any of those places so I wouldn't know). I know people summering at several V10 firms with around that GPA so you should basically just blanket apply to have as many options as possible.

Pretty good meaning for V30 or like V50?

Not sure the distinction matters since OP didn’t specify.

I'm T70 in NY, 3.4 gpa, slightly above 25%, no journals or moot court. Anyone have an idea for my odds?

Probably not great, but it would also be more helpful if you could just name the school? I assume this isn't Fordham (where'd I'd think you'd have an OK shot).

fordham is in the 30s or something, might be dozo. If it’s SJU I assume they’re SOL.

you should apply everywhere but not a great chance. you should be talking to alums of your school in-city, it’s nice outside, ask to grab coffee.

Cravath is not that grade sensitive tbh -- only Wachtel, S&C and probably cleary are out (bc cleary is notoriously snobby about T14)

I think Cravath is out of BC. BC has 1-3 go to S&C every year I think and 0 to Cravath.

As someone mentioned above, a 3.7 at BC/BU can get you every firm aside from Wachtell, Cravath and the lit boutiques.

I know people at BC/BU who had low 3 (3.0-3.2) GPAs who got lower Vault 100 firms in NY and Goodwin/Mintz/Foley Hoag in Boston,

And Freshfields. They only do T-14.
