2022 Pre-OCI Megathread

Post by STattorney » Mon Jun 06, 2022 12:10 pm

Thought I'd add a spot to post pre-OCI happenings/timelines/advice. Past threads have had useful information.

Thanks! I want to know when will we start to see movements in NY? Also, does pre-oci usually contain a screener or goes straight to CB?

FWIW, I believe it is usually straight to call back and I believe STB NY has started interviews.

Likely mid/late June is when first movement will start.

Straight to CB

Anyone know much about LA timelines? I know Latham is moving already -- I have a callback this week.

How long did the turn around from submitting your application --> screener and screener --> take for you?

Never applied, just networked really hard. I got a screener offer about a week after giving an associate my resume, then a callback offer a week after the screener.

A lot of NYC firms just posted on our symplicity site yesterday. Imagine they will start scheduling pre OCI interviews next week or week after, once apps roll in.

re timelines, things will move fast if they want you. I wouldn’t stress too much about application —> screener/cb as sometimes schedules just don’t work or applications slip through the cracks for a week, but everything after that should typically be <1 week turnaround. This is my experience in NY specifically.

STB, for example, is typically cb—> offer within a week. anything longer than a week you’re being effectively waitlisted. again though, this was NY - I did pre-oci in a smaller market and waited a month between screener and cb

Have two callbacks scheduled at V5 firms -- so there is definitely already movement!

Late last week for both, so they are moving pretty fast for sure. And thank you!

Been applying for the past two weeks and got a V20 callback earlier this week. Feeling kinda anxious that I won't hear back from another firm again... Also, does anyone know what the chances of pre-OCI CB --> offer are?

Just adding another data point. Applied broadly from mid-May - early June. Received 2 callback requests last week (V10 and V20). Had callbacks this week, one went from CB --> offer in ~24 hours. Haven't heard from the other yet.

For those who’ve gotten offers - how long are they giving you to accept/reject? Is 14 days the industry standard?

AFAIK, firms apply the same policy they would apply to offers if they were given at OCI. So if they were holding open for 2 weeks after OCI for OCI interviews, they will hold open until 2 weeks after OCI for pre-OCI interviews.

Anecdote (did pre-OCI in NYC last year) BUT things move very fast.

Firms that went direct to call back extended callbacks within 3-4 of applications. The firms that did screeners (Skadden, Wilkie, Latham, and MoFo) extended callbacks within 2ish days of the screener.

Offers range a little more but still generally quick. Davis Polk took ~7 business days. PW was ~3 business days (Wednesday -> Monday, believe their committee meets on a Friday). Simpson and SullCrom were next day. Debevoise was same day ~2 hours after interview. Cravath was at the end of interview.

Rejections take much longer: Latham rejection took ~a month. If someone just disappears, they are likely waiting on other applicants to interview or you're getting slapped with the dong.

It also kinda does feel a bit random - to this day I do not understand my Latham dong.

That's all the time line insight my ass has.

They only pre-OCI through CIP program which does not move until July (IIRC), it specifies dates on their website

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
