Waiving into DC by Score

Hi everyone,

what is the process/general timeline for waiving into dc by score? I recently got a job in DC after originally planning to go to New York, but obviously missed the cutoff for DC's bar application (I am registered for NY's bar). So, do I just wait until I get my score back from New York and then apply? What is the typical timeline for how long it will take to get waived in? I tried searching the dc bar page, but I am honestly a little lost, so I apologize if the answer is obvious.

It's not a fast process. It took me 5-6 months to waive in this year based on my exam score elsewhere, and I think that's relatively quick. I would go to their website and apply soon to get the ball rolling. Once you send everything in, you probably won't hear anything for a good while. If it takes over 6-7 months, reach out and I think they are good about processing older applications more quickly when someone inquires.

Yeah, as previous poster said, it's not a difficult process (wait until you get your NY score, then apply), but it takes a long time. In my case, it took about thirteen months. My firm was very chill about it. I think DC firms are fully aware it's an excruciatingly long process and that the delay is not your fault, and they're comfortable that it'll happen eventually as long as you're admitted somewhere in the meantime.

DC actually kind of screwed their process up this year by limiting the amount of seats and making a priority registration only for DC schools that made a lot of people register to take the bar somewhere else so this year there's an expedited review for people applying by transferred UBE score, a reduced fee, and you don't have to wait until you receive your score either. You can find more here under announcements and then submit your app https://admissions.dcappeals.gov/home
