Class of 2023 lucked out

Looking at the large summer classes this summer, it’s pretty clear that the class of 2023 lucked out. Firms were strapped last year and overhired for the 2022 summer programs. Most firms are very reluctant to no-offer anyone (just don’t give them a reason), so despite the over-hiring, summer associates can expect to have jobs come the fall of 2023. Barring a sudden change in the economy, class of 2024 will not find the hiring market nearly as favorable.

As a 1L with a SA, do you think i will be fine from any potential reduction in class size for 2l summer positions?

If the economy tanks they'll be screwed. At least classes of 20/21 got some work experience.

Are we actually that confident that the class of 2023 will get offers? The over-hiring almost seems like a setup for no-offers

Class of '22 had the worst law school experience ever and I'll die on this useless hill:
-1L switches to online midway into Spring and we're told we're P/F like 3 weeks before finals
-lol at getting anything 1L summer unless you murdered it last fall
-2L fall grades suddenly matter since OCI is pushed to January
-none of the OCI or summer associate wine and dine, just burned retinas from influencer lights between interviews and awkward as fuck Zoom SA events
-3LOL is masked
-now graduate and take the bar and show up in office

Yeah, the majority of '22 SA positions were fully remote unless the office was in TX, DE, etc., or unless you happened to just live closeby the office because a ton of associates/partners were already over it.
Class of '21 bitched a lot about the bar, but they're the ones that got paid in full for 2-3 weeks of watching videos. Unless they got stiffed by S&C of course.
'21 S&C summers got the most fucked of any SA class in history imo

at least y'all got a full 3LOL. class of '21 only hard partial 3LOL. but you'll all be able to make up for it during summer as first years

To be fair, 2L Fall grades boosted my GPA by > 0.2 due to relaxed curves for upperlevel classes. Got into firms that probably wouldn't have given me a second look as a result of the pandemic.

Class of 21 here, 3LOLd with camera off. Fully agree you guys have it worse, experience wise. I did sorta miss half of law school but law school sucks so no loss.

‘21 and ‘22 both had awful experiences in different ways. I remember ‘20 complaining a ton about missed graduations etc., but in hindsight they fared by far the best out of all of Covid classes, only missing a couple of months and getting to skip a semester of grades.

They will get offers, but a lot will be fired after their first full calendar year of work if there’s a downturn.

Correction - S&C made it up to ‘21 by forgiving the $10,000 salary advance paid when they were summers, so effectively the summers got fully paid with no program at all.

School social events didn't happen at my law school, and private social events also kind didn't happen due to threatening emails from admin.

I'm not sullcrom, but $29k for two weeks of work is sick.
