Had all lateral interviews pulled by HR/Recruiting, abruptly, once I gave them the courtesy of letting them know I had other offers from other firms with deadlines attached. Their attorneys sat by and did nothing. For anyone who has options out their, try not to choose a law firm that acts like a jealous and immature 15 year-old would in the same situation...

Rather than abruptly cancel the interviews, I'd think they would just say they can't move up the dates and that OP should decide whether to proceed or not. Though I suspect OP may have communicated poorly with the firm.

Sure, but they could have already identified/lined up a candidate or two they liked better so figured it wasn’t worth wasting anyone’s time.

I’m not saying it’s the only/best way in the world to handle it, but I don’t think it’s “post on the internet in high dudgeon” level, either.

OP here. I respect all the comments made. Just wanted to add that I'm lateraling as of counsel, and this will be my 4th lateral overall. I had a non-liberal arts career prior to becoming an attorney (trying to avoid too many specifics, although if I was overly concerned with outing I wouldn't have given as many specifics as I have already). I've been around enough to know these things happen, obviously, and wanted to start a thread to see if anyone had similar experiences (unethical and/or unprofessional - in my case, this was unprofessional, even for this industry and my prior career). I have some of my own clients (small business, but still, I'm pointing this out along with the foregoing to make the next point). So I've been around the block many times and at this long enough, and gotten this far, that you'll just have to trust me or not when I say my communication skills with Buchanan were not the issue. I literally just informed them I had another offer that had X deadline associated with it and did it as a courtesy and of course to make sure scheduling and timeline were ok, and within 10 minutes my final round interviews and lunch was cancelled - already went through conflicts and background prior to this final interview lunch (was waiting to clear). I've provided disclosure of competing offers to my top choice firms every other time I have lateraled. Quite frankly, there may have been unethical practices in having me disclose the information Buchanan asked me to disclose in their conflicts process as my current firm is considered a "mega firm" that they try to compete for clients with in several markets, but I won't make claims for which I don't have all the facts. It was patently unprofessional, and what ensued after - when I asked the partners what happened - was equally if not more unprofessional with what they told me on my phone call (if people are interested, I can post about this, I have to think about not dropping too many specifics). As for why this upset me, aside from it being unprofessional (YMMV and you may think this was par for the course, as I've said, I believe differently from my experiences and there is the matter of the conflicts check and other things in interacting with the Buchanan team that are in play here) I had specific reasons for wanting Buchanan. But of course I'm thankful to have good offers elsewhere now and that they have shown their true colors before I ended up working for them. I know others have had similar experiences with Buchanan and Buchanan has never been known to have a great rep, some of which is reflected ITT. Still, this was genuinely surprising and unexpected.
