i have a scholarly article forthcoming in a law journal. it has pretty much no relation to my practice area. i know i'm being paranoid here but is there any downside to putting this on my firm profile?
is there any upside?

I think it should be fine. If your firm cleared you on conflicts for the article, I would be surprised if there was anything in there very offensive to the firm or clients.

The article has not been published and the OP has not told the law firm about it so it would not have been cleared in a conflicts check.

Publishing without clearing conflicts or giving the appropriate heads up to the firm could be an issue down the road
