Hello all,

Was wondering what everyone thought- but how soon should you "specialize".

Is it every too late to switch practice groups?
i.e. if you are doing commercial lit but want to jump to L&E or vice versa?

What about for more dramatic jumps like Transactional to Lit?

Just curious what folks' thoughts are.

the more dramatic the earlier

transactional to lit should be done ideally before the end of year one and certainly before end of year two

After 1-2 years it's very difficult to switch to a completely new practice. It's much more feasible to make a switch when you have some relevant experience. For instance if you're in general litigation and you end up working on some antitrust cases, you might be able to switch to antitrust as a midlevel.
