About a week ago I was offered a position with a PI firm to do pro bono work. It’s a great organization that I’ve followed for years, however afterwards I was offered to interview for a judicial internship the state I go to school in and want to practice and was offered the position on the spot. It’s important for me to get a position in my

Our law school policy is to withdrawal all applications once an offer is accepted. However, I believed I would be able to do this internship with another since it’s only 10-15 hours. But the judicial code of ethics forbids pro bono work while also employed/interning so I’d have to choose one or the other. I’m worried firms will be scared off during OCIs since my application is riddled with experience in my home state. I go to a regional school where it’s important to establish roots if you want to succeed during OCI.

Does anyone have guidance on what to do here? Reasonably, what are the consequences of reneging?

I honestly don't see the PI organization caring much -- especially given that it's not even a full-time position. You could say that you remain deeply interested in their work, but that you were offered a full-time position that will provide more experience and propose to them that you move the internship to the fall semester.

I know a lot of folks that did half their summer with a judge, half with a PI org. Is that a possibility here?
