M&A -> investment fund in-house counsel?

Hey all,

I'm planning to soon switch groups into M&A at a V5. The group does a mix of public and private M&A, and is not one of the V5s known for being PE-heavy. Longer term, my hope is to land as in-house counsel at a PE or VC fund.

My question is: is in-house at a PE or VC fund a realistic exit opp from V5 M&A? My own research points towards yes, M&A would be a good practice group to eventually land this role. But it's a new practice area for me and my lawyer contacts at investment funds are pretty limited, so I wanted to turn to the TLS brain trust to hear some more perspectives.

Many thanks for all input!

What practice area do you have experience in?
