Corporate practice slowing down? Impact on lateral market?

Hi all, I'm a third year working on finding an opportunity to pivot from commercial lit to corporate/M&A. A bit concerned that a cooling market means bad news for job hunting. I've been seeing murmurs of corporate work being slow/slowing down, but also seeing people say it will pick back up soon enough having seen an influx of NDAs and hearing partners chatter this month. Wondering if there is a general consensus on whether corporate will be busy in 2022?

Zero, some of these firms might be a little more insistent on dropping a class year than they would have been when it was hog wild end of last year. But the start of the year being slower is super normal, wouldn’t read anything into It yet.

OP here, thanks for the reassuring words! Happy to start over as a first year if that's what it takes, ha. In it for the experience at this point, more so than the comp.

Corp prb not slowing down. Can I ask you why you want to leave lit and move into corp?

Hi, OP here. I dabbled in both transactional and lit work as a first year and then lateraled for a great opportunity to really work on high-stakes complex lit. It's been a great learning experience for sure. But more importantly, I've learned that I like working on deals and working with businesses a lot more than litigating. I realized I don't particularly enjoy the zero-sum nature of litigation. I don't mind quibbling over contract terms or dollar amounts, but it's more enjoyable for me when both sides can at least walk away happy (for the most part).
