Two weeks notice overlaps with vacation

Lateraling and my new firm expects conflicts to clear by Friday. But if I put in two weeks notice on Friday, the last four days (T-F of week 2) would overlap with a vacation planned months ago. Do I give (a) two weeks notice on Monday before conflicts clear; (b) one week and a day’s notice after I expect conflicts to clear; or (c) some alternate option. Looking for advice. Have a few big projects on my plate with additional work piling on each day.

My two cents: do not give notice before conflicts clear (your new firm should have explicitly warned you against giving notice before conflicts clear). Your new firm may request that you have some of your current clients sign conflict waivers. It is very rare, but you might come across a client that does not want to sign the waiver.

I've heard of associates f****d on conflicts. Don't give notice till conflicts clear.

Your firm may have a policy against using PTO while on a notice period.

Thanks. Will not give notice before conflict clears. But I’m worried about then having to give only a weeks notice due to the vacation. How do I navigate in the least shitty way?

Your new firm can absolutely deal with you starting after you’ve taken vacation and given and served out the two weeks notice. Everyone gets in this situation and feels the need to appease their new firm, but it’s absurd to make this the candidate’s problem. My firm was begging me to start pronto, and I took three weeks. Fast forward six months, no one cares that I did that.

If I'm understanding correctly, you're worried about taking a vacation during the last half of your notice period? But, why? Don't even tell people you're going on vacation. Give your notice, transfer your matters to people, then take your vacation. Answer the occasional email if you need to, no biggie.
Don't leave money on the table by quitting early.

Thanks, to be clear, this isn’t an issue with my new firm. They're giving me an extra couple weeks between jobs and would likely add more time if conflicts takes longer than expected.
The issue is that due to (I) when I except conflicts to clear; and (II) a long ago-planned vacation the first week of March, I will likely have to give my current firm just over a week’s notice instead of two weeks notice. But I also don’t want to be a dick. Trying to see if there are any solutions or ways to soften the short notice.

do you think you need more than a week to appropriately hand everything off? how much notice you need depends on peoples' circumstances, two weeks is standard because it's enough for most people. that doens't mean you can't get away with less

Why not give notice as soon as you get back from vacation? I feel like the new firm should accommodate you if you say you have planned a vacation and want to start there after it’s over (with the notice period implied to come after the vacation).
