Do you have a drinking problem?

Lawyers, especially corporate lawyers, are always portrayed as two things:
1) people who are acceptable to hate
2) alcoholics
Does the stereotype around alcohol ring true for you? For the people you have observed? How often do you drink?

I feel like someone is putting together a book or some kind of guide with threads that have been started over the last week.
And, probably.

I wouldn't call it a problem, more like an opportunity.

I think many of the other threads are started by law students so it does read that way. This thread might be a bit corny (OP here) but I felt it's something that is rarely discussed sincerely in our profession.

I drink 5-7 days per week, but most days it is no more than a glass or two of bourbon or wine. If that is all I drink, I usually drink every night. If I go out and put back several, I usually don't drink anything for the next day or two.
Is that a lot? I don't know how much other people drink so have nothing to compare it to.

The median person in this country has like 1-2 drinks a week. So it’s certainly above average and makes you at increased risk for alcoholism, but it doesn’t sound like it’s problematic today.
The alchol market is crazy. Companies who sell alchol make the majority of their money off alcoholics. The top 10 percent of drinkers have 70 drinks a week. They then make all their drink responsibly ads. The truth is, if people drank responsibly, a lot of them would go bankrupt.

The lobster joke was okay. But it wasn't 15 pages out of a 45 page thread and spread into other threads level funny. This lobster thing is getting more out of hand than DPW and the other V10 coluding to make Milbank's scale an outlier and not market.
To stay on topic, yes I have a problem with bad jokes spreading too far but not a drinking problem.

Probably 50 drinks a week. No more huge binges but I drink every day.

I don't know what on earth you are talking about regarding #1?!?! Also, it should be "who", not "that". People are "who", objects are "that". You absolute moron.
Regarding #2, if you want to succeed, you can't be an alcoholic, gotta be on that meth! (If DPW would raise salaries already, I could upgrade to coke)

Definitely feels very weird. Lots of surveys from anonymous accounts, people happily responding in fulsome terms. Are they all from the same person?

Depends on the month. Some months I'll consciously try to drink less, but if I'm not doing that, it'll be 5-7 drinks two or three times a week, and 1-2 most other days. It's a bit tricky to compare because I'll often have cocktails (which vary) or high ABV beers.
Is that a *problem*? I'm not sure. I haven't done things I regret while drinking (I am careful not to send texts or emails after 3-4 drinks, I never drive after drinking etc.), and it doesn't prevent me from accomplishing ordinary life tasks, so no? But on the other hand, it's fairly unhealthy and I don't think I could easily stop, so maybe?

I just did a dry January and honestly, guys, it was super beneficial for my mental and physical health. I would really recommend people try going dry for a month.
I was never close to having a "problem" drinking or anything, but anytime I had a rough day or wanted to unwind late, I would pour myself a glass of wine (which would turn into 2) or a glass of whiskey. There is nothing wrong with that, at all.
When I forced myself to find disassociate unwinding with alcohol for a month, it helped me level-set and start building healthier habits. I now limit any drinking to weekends, and usually it is just drinks out at dinner/maybe another drink back home.
Alcohol is not a problem and I freaking love wine and whiskey. The problem is people's habit forming behavior where you can instantly associate "tough day = drink" "need to relax = drink" "bored at night = drink"
So much of this job can just suck mentally and physically, and putting effort into taking care of yourself physically and mentally when you are not working is so often forgotten about. It doesn't matter how much money you make or what kind of high-level work you are doing if you are a sad, fat sack of potatoes.

Since Corona, I very rarely drink and when I do, it's a beer or maybe two. Prior to Corona, I didn't drink frequently, but when I did drink, it was a shit ton at a time.
