No salary increase after the new year?

V25. Is it just me or was there no salary increase after the new year? The last salary increase was in July 2021 (with the 205000 scale), and the new year would have bumped me into a new class year, but I saw no increase on my mid-January statement to reflect that. Do firms want to wait until July to do the annual salary increase instead?

Completely firm-dependent, but some firms do it on their fiscal year, which isn't always Jan - Dec.

My firm reflects the annual raise first in February with a gross up payment for January, and I know some others do the same. No idea why.

Also, there's some sort of tax payment that always occurs in the first half of the year, but stops towards the end of the year after you hit the yearly max (I can't remember what exactly this is for). That'll be back on your paycheck now so the increase from December to January in take home pay always looks lower than you expect.

That is Social Security, once you hit $140kish in a given year you no longer pay Social Security.

Some firms also do a full calendar year after you started

Yup, my firm doesn't bump salaries until end of January. They provide a gross up for the mid-January paycheck that didn't include the bump.
