Are summer associates for v10 big law firms paid based on their first year salary or are they paid a little less than what they will make their first year? Ex, 205,000 would be 4270 per week

Depends. Traditionally the pay was the same (except take-home might differ in that first years usually have various deductions for health insurance, 401(k), etc. which summers often would not, and obviously taxes would be different at the end of the year). In the most recent round of raises, though, some firms created a distinction between stubs and first years, and I'm not sure it's clear yet what summers at those firms will be paid. Presumably they'll get what stubs get, but I suppose it's possible they'll get even less.

I accepted an SA position at a v100 that pays $202.5k for stubs and $205k for first years. Our offer letter says that we're being paid a pro-rated salary based on the $202.5k amount this summer.

ETA: so $3894 per week.

Im a little confused. 202500/12 and then divided by 4 is 4218 a week. Are you saying what you would be making that much after taxes? Where are you getting that number?

Not the above anon, but 202500/52 = 3894. I weep for the future.

Like 30% of people on top law clearly need therapists. Don’t take it personal

I'm the anon that initially gave the $3894 number. The above poster is correct; I divided by 52 because I figured it was more accurate than dividing by 12 then dividing by 4. But to clarify, my offer letter didn't state the $3894 number—it just said that I'd get a pro-rated version of the $202.5k salary.

I thought it was obviously light hearted, but anyway.

Don’t worry, it was (a) obviously lighthearted and (b) much deserved.
