Do big tech companies like FAANG hire corporate associates from the top 4 tech/ECVC firms like Cooley, Gunderson, Fenwick, Wilson Sonsini and/or V10 firms (taking into account that these associates may have background in PE, funds, cap markets, M&A work)? Do you have to be in SF to be in a competitive position to be hired for an in-house position for a tech company?

Curious about this as well and if the ECVC firm associates have a leg up on NY V10 associates. Just something I've wondered after seeing lots of laterals

Short answers: Yes; no.

A bit more: those companies are all large companies with diverse legal needs. They hire in-house lawyers across a broad range of specialties. They will hire lawyers from firms up and down the v100 and beyond. They have offices on both coasts and some in-between. Legal personnel may be hired to work out of any of their offices or may work remotely from wherever the attorney would like to be located. They hire some with no experience (straight out of school), some with a bit of experience (2-5 years), and some with lots of experience (5 years-very senior partners).

As a V10 M&A associate I got a lot of interest from two FAANGs during my in-house job search. I'd say you're a highly desirable candidate coming from these backgrounds.
