Anyone have insight into the group or it’s members? Culture, hours, personalities, workflow, etc.

Many thanks!

When I interviewed there as a lateral, an associate warned me that it's "brutal." That was several years ago. I don't know how it compares to other top antitrust practice groups. But these days many associates in mid-tier antitrust groups are billing >2500 hours; it's an extremely busy practice area right now.

Bumping since I'm hearing they are hiring in the Bay Area. Any additional insight into the group or the partners that are opening the Bay Area office(s)?

Interested in this as well. I'm in DC and have not heard about most associate billing over 2500 -- that would be . . . a lot. We are all busy, but that number doesn't seem in line with experiences in AT I've come across. By that logic, Cleary would probably be in the upper 2000s for hours? Any truth?

I knew someone who worked as a litigation paralegal in the DC office some years back. Her hours as a paralegal were pretty insane because the hours of the attorneys who worked on those matters were pretty insane.

But according to her, the people in the group when she was there were really solid and smart. Some people were slightly more neurotic and high strung than others but, as a whole, she had no complaints about the group's culture. Only complaint was having to work the same crazy hours as the associates on a paralegal's salary.

The group recently lost Dave Gelfand, perhaps their best attorney, so that was a big loss.

He retired, right?

Essentially, yes. Went to teach at ASU.

FWIW, I've worked opposite them in a number of matters (I'm at one of the agencies) and found them to be generally smart and credible, which I would not say for most of the private bar.
