Same office as significant other?

If you've worked at the same firm/office as your gf/bf, what's it like? I'm lateraling to the city my gf works in and have a couple offers, one of which is her firm. We're in different groups and I don't think we'd be staffed on deals together but it seems like there could be random awkardness? Curious what people's experiences have been.

No personal experience, but married friends of mine worked at the same boutique. They weren't the same class year, and since it was a boutique the staffing was lean, but from what they told me, they really liked it. It made long hours less sucky since they saw each other here and there during the day and they could have a coffee or whatever when things were slow.

I rarely see people that do not work on my floor. I wouldn't really anticipate any awkwardness unless you sit near one another.

There will be expectations of having meals together, at least from time to time. This may be good or bad for you.

You can't ever know if it will happen, but there is the possibility you become a topic of the gossip mill. This has the potential to be very destructive to your relationship.

No personal experience but other people at my biglaw firm were in serious relationships. They were in different practice groups and it really wasn't a big deal at all. If anything, other people thought it was sorta sweet/cute since they met through work.
