Unemployed T14 grad here who failed the bar exam.

Hi everyone! Unfortunately, I'm an unemployed T14 2021 grad who sadly failed the bar exam due to a lack of preparation and health issues.

I'm confident I'll pass in February though. I was wondering how bad would a 6 to 8 months employment gap on the resume look. Also, should I look for part time work while studying on the bar or just focus on the bar exam? Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

If there's a good opportunity that comes up in the interim, feel free to take it - but make sure they know that your priority is passing the bar. If you want to get paid like an attorney, practice as an attorney, make a career as an attorney, etc., the first order of business is to pass the bar.

There are ways to explain a gap in the resume (health issues, family emergency, uncertainty over career) - and I would encourage you to have a good way to talk about this time period in your life for future interviews - but there is no (legal) way to fake passing the bar.

Good luck to you. Plenty of accomplished people have failed the bar. This can be a minor speedbump to the rest of your life, but you've got to make it over the speedbump if being an attorney is what you want to do with your future.
