Wilkie’s west coast offices

Post by Anonymous User » Sat Oct 23, 2021 4:02 pm

Does anybody know anything about Wilkie’s new west coast offices? Are they busy? Are they just supporting NYC? On the lit side, so they handle substantial matters? I’m curious because they hired some keker big shots in SF, but I’d never really heard of them otherwise.

They’re definitely new to the scene. Super fast growth across the country in the past couple of years, so I don’t know if they have stable footing in these markets. IMO, I’ve generally been weary of fast growth/expansion.

+1. No point to take unnecessary risks if you have options.

Current Willkie NY senior corporate associate (so am biased, but also not a Willkie lifer having lateraled last year), and can tell you that all our offices (including west coast ones) are swamped. Willkie has been pretty strategic about their growth and actually fairly conservative in taking on new partners in the new markets. All the new offices they opened up have their own source of work (Willkie LA is pretty much former Venable LA for entertainment, private clients, estate planning, etc., and Willkie Chicago is pretty much former Jenner Chicago for litigation & trial, private wealth, etc.), so the growth is by no means a financial stability issue.

That said, if you're looking for straight NY-style transactional work as an associate, that is mainly coming out of NY as far as I know.
