How soon is too soon to take another vacation?

Hello everyone. I recently started working for a mid-size firm in New York since March after working in a non-traditional legal environment. I'm curious to know what "ordinary" practices are for asking for extended time off (I'm currently planning on taking a week off in October, and then another week off in January for personal reasons). I have not taken a "summer vacation", but took one day off in June. Is that considered too close to each other to take vacations? For what it's worth, the partner I work with the most is pretty chill about these kind of things, so I thought I was good, but the other associate who works closely with him (he was kind of his mentee/go-to guy before I joined) kind of was like "Oh, man, that's not a good idea, you want to leave a good first impression!" and that kinda screwed with my thinking :( General opinions appreciated!

seems totally fine to me

the only thing that would ever draw my attention is if someone took 1-3 weeks off, came back, and then took another 1-3 weeks off within like 6 weeks or so barring exceptional circumstances like a wedding. cause that just fucks your teams over real bad coverage-wise.

As long as you’re not missing something big and you are give sufficient notice, you should be fine.

I take one off-the-grid vacation per year where I don’t respond to emails unless it’s a true emergency and I happen to have signal, and this has always worked (been encouraged by partners even). But I think this is a once a year card. If you can at least be contacted and responded on one of the trips, should be no problem.

Definitely would not sweat it, with the same caveat that others have given re: clear communication and properly preparing for your vacation.

If it makes you feel any better, I took a week off in June (though it turns out I picked a great week where my deals mostly screeched to a halt and the deal teams weren't really affected) and I'm taking another week off in a couple of weeks.
