Am I the only person who finds these sorts of posts, especially for mediocre firm, incredibly cringe?

I find them a bit cringe but I find the fact that you’re calling some firms “mediocre” even more cringe.

They are really cringe. But I also it's kind of pure to see clueless law students be excited about their future job. Once they start working and reality sets in, that excitement goes away pretty fast. So I say let them have it

I find the use of the word "cringe" to be the worst sin of all; second-worst is attacking law students for being happy about getting a job. Third-worst is the "humbled/honored/blessed" posts.

Sounds like a few firms are sending out pictures and encouraging students to post on Linkedin. I agree the posts are very cringey but if the firm is pushing you to do it, most students are just going to do it.

Worst are the posts that explain how proud their grandma who walked and swam on one leg all the way to the US from Russia, with their father on her chest and their six uncles in tow, living off only a crust of bread that she used her last 20 cents to buy, would be.

Relatedly, I've not only seen people share these posts (both upon accepting an SA offer and a post-grad offer), but also people changing their LinkedIn headlines to super cringe-y things beyond the "incoming associate" stuff. For example, I recently saw a rising 3L change their headline to "Associate Attorney at [Law Firm] (Beginning Fall 2022)." Like, I'm happy that you're excited to join that firm, but maybe don't hold yourself out as an attorney until you are barred and admitted.

LMAO. But have you seen “Incoming summer associate”…ten months before the summer begins??

What is the appropriate way to handle this? Should someone change it at the start of next summer when they start up the job or post something much more curt a la "I've accepted an offer at XX firm in XX city for next summer!"

I feel like the stuff that really grinds my gears is the false humility and grandstanding. Is there something wrong with saying you've accepted a job on linkedin?

Just change your headline to ‘incoming’ toward the end of the spring semester, and presumably your connections will all be notified. There’s no need to make a meal about making it to the tryout stage of full employment, especially when literally thousands of other students are in the exact same non-position.

The same kids who are THRILLED TO ANNOUNCE are the same who will lead into a conversation with a disingenuous question about how your OCI went, then sulk when your firm which you didn’t bother to announce shits prodigiously on theirs.

I think it is just a lack of sound social awareness for the most part. Lots of law students are K-JD and presumably some have never held a full-time job before, so maybe that has something to do with it?

I agree that some posts enter into full overkill territory, and really lay it on thick (beyond the copy-paste Kirkland & Ellis posts). These posts almost seem to follow some trend toward social media influencer-esque clickbait in a strange way.

Love the amount of effort that goes into a post about a job that might be held for 1-3 years.

Just another symptom of the snowflake mentality.

At some point LinkedIn changed from an online resume to a cliché saccharin zoomer Facebook and I don't like it.
