Background Check

How long does it take to clear a background check (specifically HireRight)? I've been waiting for several weeks - I gave notice after clearing conflicts and didn't anticipate it taking this long.

My firm used a different service so YMMV but mine took almost a month. Part of that was because I had to provide some additional documentation regarding self-employment. Part of it seemed to be that some of the criminal databases were taking longer than usual to provide results (at least that's what the service's web portal seemed to indicate). Have you checked in with HireRight at all? I found the service my firm used to be surprisingly responsive and helpful.

Not to hijack your thread, but I recently cleared conflicts and the firm is wondering when I can start/give notice. However, I haven't cleared the background check (HireRight). Is it wrong to wait until I clear both? Not trying to be in unemployed limbo while they figure out the background check part.

I'm OP - would recommend not giving notice, both for mental peace (even if you didn't do anything wrong who knows what might come up), and the risk of the background check taking like a month (and being without a paycheck for like 2-3 weeks until the background finally clears).
