Any insight into which of Skadden, PW or DPW (all NYC office) are best for a mid-level M&A lateral looking to go in house eventually? What are the pros and cons of working at each place? Are the people more tolerable at one firm over the others?

Maybe Skadden by a smidge, but DPW isn't that far behind. Skadden probs has slightly greater diversity in its clients and its M&A practice overall is considered a hair stronger than DPW's. But it's close enough that if you like DPW more, it's not a bad idea to head there. PW is great too but def skewed towards PE and isn't quite as well regarded yet in the M&A space (though it's not too far off from Skadden/DPW).

PW is a step below the others in terms of M&A. Also heard Barshay is miserable to work with and that he pretty much sets the culture for the M&A group (although this might be exaggerated).
