PW vs. GDC (both DC)

Lit-oriented considering both these offices. I understand appellate is conservative-leaning at both, but I'm not super-focused on that / would love to try out commercial, antitrust, reg, etc. Free market may make getting variety easier at GDC but wanted to pick the hive mind's brain on general thoughts on rep, practices, etc.

Agreed. Nothing wrong with PW, but Gibson is just a class above in DC litigation.

Can someone provide a practice-level breakdown? Hard to really gauge this qualitatively with Chambers alone

Gibson is going to be better in antitrust, labor & employment, construction, white collar, commercial lit, and securities. The only thing PW is better at is appellate litigation, assuming you were chosen to work directly with Kannon, which isn't too likely. Although it's possible to get some work with him if you really want. But I don't think you could make a practice out of it. Otherwise, Gibson has a much deeper bench of star appellate litigators and it's easier to work in the group.
This isn't to disparage PW's DC office. They do good work, and get a lot of interesting cases - I think they just worked on the Apple-Epic case. But the office is quite small, and a lot of their work is outsourced from the NY office.

Pretty sure Gibson represented Apple, and Cravath represented Epic, no?

Both PW and GDC represented Apple. Karen Dunn (PW) seemed to be the lead trial counsel, but that's just from reading news reports.
