Offers to return after SA?

When do SAs at biglaw firms typically get offers to return to their firm after graduation? Do you have to wait a while after your SA ends? Or does it usually come towards the end of your SA (i.e., your last day)?

Totally depends on the firm. Ask a first year that was an SA or your SA coordinator person. My firm called you one week after the SA was over, some do it during your exit interview, etc.

If a firm doesn't make it official during your last week, they'll usually tell you what to expect (e.g. "we're recommending you for an offer"). I think it's uncommon for summers to be in the dark after their program ends.

Thanks for the answers. How long does it typically take to get the offer in writing?

I'm an SA at a v10 firm and I've been told by associates that the norm is that, during the Managing Partner's end of summer speech (at some point during our last week), they will announce that summers have an offer to return as a full-time associate. Have no idea if this is market, and I know that the offer rate has been roughly 100% for the last 50 years.
