Here with my very low stone Bid list (I have stone by 1/2 a grade). Really hoping for DC but tried to be realistic and load up with large class NYC. I have strong DC ties.

Your NY bids are fine matches (Cravath seems ambitious), but hope you gave yourself some FFB breathing room with them, because it's very possible that you strike out completely on DC. You need a lot of NY interviews as backup. The ties are good, but your grades aren't impressive, and DC is very popular with gunners.

I'd drop Cravath for a less-grade-sensitive V10 like Kirkland or Skadden. I'd also pray that DC isn't popular with the Kent/near-Kent people, because low-Stone isn't a great place to be for DC at CLS.
That is good advice, will do. I have my fingers crossed about that DC situation, but I figure I have to shoot my shot and that my list is sufficiently conservative to not make it reckless.

Hoping to hear from folks who can weigh in on whether they agree!

The firms generally look fine, though Debovoise is way too high according to FFB and Hogan probably is too. Realistically, unless you are URM, I think it’s pretty likely you’ll strike out on DC unless you get an offer at Cleary or Venable. Steptoe should be included.

If you are gunning for DC at low Stone and no particular tip factors (e.g., targeted diversity demographic or practice area), you should have mind-blowing answers to why DC backed up with specifics. I also have no idea why you have K&S NY Transactional but Quinn DC on the same list. Are you transactional, lit, or open to both?

Not that poster, but curious as to what a "mind-blowing answer" looks like. In my case, the type of work I'm interested in is all there and I have a personal interest in being there—I've lived there before and, simply put, it's the city I want to settle down in, etc. Not good enough?

That sounds good--both a strong personal reason for why the firm can reasonably expect you to stay in the area and a professional reason about why DC is where you want to work (e.g., government-facing work, congressional investigations).

But a low Stone person even with some personal ties who just wants to work at Cov or WH or GDC for vague reasons is *probably* not going to make the cut.
