NY Gym Subsidy

Post by popcorn123 » Sat May 01, 2021 3:51 pm

I was wondering if any current NY associates can share anything on NY big firms' gym subsidy policy?
- how much does the firm subsidize?
- net out-of-pocket expense?
- which gym(s)?

I think it probably varies a lot, but if you know what firm you’re going to, you may be able to call the gym and ask about the corporate rates for your firm’s account. My old firm had rates at New York Sports Club, New York Health and Racquet Club, and Equinox but they weren’t great - for all-access Equinox (instead of just one club), I think I was paying like $200 a month. However, I have friends whose firms fully comp the Equinox closest to their office and then provide a much cheaper rate for all Equinoxes (like $50 a month). The other two places were cheaper than Equinox with my corporate discount (NYSC significantly so, obviously) but I don’t recall the exact rates.

when i was there equinox was 50% off whatever membership level you chose and i believe the initiation fee was waived. nysc was basically pennies after the discount. not sure if any of that has changed since i lateraled.

I don't know if other firms have done it, but Cleary also allows for reimbursements of $1800 worth of home fitness equipment. People have been getting Pelotons and all those fancy stuff.
