I am slated to start in the M&A group but would really like to get some experience in Capital Markets. Are these practice groups similar enough that I could get some experience in both? Thanks

Yes, at a junior level especially public company stuff (proxies especially) has a fair bit of overlap. Many general corporate groups actually do both (especially in satellite offices) FYI.

I'm a midlevel and throughout my career I've done a bit of everything, including CapM and M&A. If you're not at a firm where they really separate corporate groups (like a lot of NYC offices/firms), you can easily do both. A lot of other cities like LA, Seattle, SF/SV, SD allow you to be a "corporate" attorney rather than just an M&A or whatever attorney.

The downside to this is I don't feel that I am particularly good at anything.
