What’s everyone’s take on cover letters when they are optional, you’re a senior associate and your resume sort of speaks for itself (meaning it matches perfectly with the job description)?

Why wouldn't you include one to explain why you want to work for X firm or in Y City? Yeah you'll probably get a request to interview either way, but it seems like this is low-hanging fruit to start building the narrative for why they should hire you specifically and not another senior associate with similar credentials.

I don't know. Maybe I'm overthinking this.

For the hiring I’ve been part of, people always want to see why someone wants the job, which means they want to see a cover letter. It’s not like OCI where cover letters are kind of superfluous given the whole OCI machine.

The issue is that I need the time I'm not billing hours to browse TLS, not craft cover letters.

It shouldn't be more than what, a .3 to draft and proof a basic cover letter? Buck up, my friend.
