Lateral Offer - Name the Firm/How to Reveal?

There's plenty of discussion about telling firms post-CB that you have an offer from another firm, but nothing really about naming the firm. If it's a peer or even better firm, is it appropriate? I have an offer at a prestigious firm, but am more interested in another firm which is arguably less prestigious although I personally prefer it.

Also, it seems that there are mixed opinions about emailing vs. calling about the offer. The calling ones are from early 2010s it seems before, you know, everyone started surely preferring email for everything. I was kind of surprised because I thought emailing would always be better. Thoughts?

Yes, you may be able to negotiate a better offer from the less prestigious firm. If you're going to do that, I'd e-mail so you don't catch the hiring partner you're speaking to off guard.
