I believe New York firms generally let associates have 2 years to get admitted, since NY takes a while. This is why some you may not find people on the website for years (some firms wait until admission to the bar).

I don’t think taking the MPRE in November will affect you at all.

eta: you generally still only get 1 year to pass the bar.

My firm has a 6 month limit for submitting your bar app after you start (idk how strictly it’s enforced, cause I started during 2019 and covid kinda fucked it all up for everyone)

But the law clerk v associate thing doesn’t really matter in my experience unless the firm thinks you might have an actual problem getting admitted or you don’t submit or get admitted within the deadline they set. The only real difference is that they don’t put you in the website until you’re barred, and honestly the only real change to my life resulting from that has been recruiter emails spamming my inbox lol
