Re: Summer Classes 2021 Edition
More hours but BL pay, so why would anyone from Yale want to work at Cravath, or, for that matter, anyone who has offers from other comparable firms? I wonder whether there is a perception and Yale and Chicago that Cravath is not as intellectual (or rarefied/out of touch, if you prefer).

As someone from Y/S, I can say that the only NY firm people are really excited by is WLRK. People also seem to prefer Sullivan, Paul Weiss, Debevoise, and Skadden to the other NYC firms.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri May 28, 2021 12:20 pmZero from Stanford also.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri May 28, 2021 12:16 amAlso 0 from Chicago (again, that’s happened a couple of times recently)

Huh, does Cleary not recruit at Fordham, Brooklyn, Cardozo, etc.? It seems like other “elite” NY firms take a small handful from each.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 1:40 pmCleary - NY (75)

Maybe not the most appropriate thread, but how are schools like Pepperdine ranked in the 50s when they haven’t placed one person on a SA list here? Even in CA...

The obvious answer is the US News metrics don't give a shit about biglaw placement.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 7:24 pmMaybe not the most appropriate thread, but how are schools like Pepperdine ranked in the 50s when they haven’t placed one person on a SA list here? Even in CA...

It should be clear at this point that the preferred outcomes for Chicago and Northwestern students generally are not NY firms. Yalies are also going to be rare at any major firm because they're Yalies.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri May 28, 2021 12:16 amAlso 0 from Chicago (again, that’s happened a couple of times recently)

Re: Summer Classes 2021 Edition
(Fordham student) I've heard of a few people who had offers from Cleary and turned them down for other firms. There's only so many people in the top of the class and some other firms are just more popular or people see them as better fits in those firms (maybe partially because there's more Fordham people in the first place).Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 11:20 amWebsite says Cleary recruits at Fordham and a general NY law school fair, but doesn't specifically go to the other ones.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 9:05 amHuh, does Cleary not recruit at Fordham, Brooklyn, Cardozo, etc.? Cleary is super elitist and continues to act as if it's one of the top firms on the street, when in reality it's been declining for several years. Look at Cleary's RPL compared to its peer firms.

RPL isn't necessarily indicative of the practice strength of the firm - Cleary is still a very good Wall Street shop

I am curious what all the top five percent Pepperdine students are doing this summer.

Re: Summer Classes 2021 Edition
Notwithstanding the weird formatting error, also would like to chime in to say that RPL really doesn't do justice for an international firm like Cleary where half of its headcount is non-US. By any other metric, such as league tables or chambers rankings, Cleary is still among the top tier.
