Vault "speciality" rankings meaningless? worth consideration?

I recently accepted a summer associate position that I am incredibly excited about. However, it is in a major market and I know eventually I will want to lateral to my home market (smaller, but still a few big law offices with relevant practice areas). The firm I accepted at is in the V40-V60, so it's no V10 situation. However, it is particularly high in vault rankings for the practice area that I want to work in. Will this make a difference for lateral opportunities? I apologize in advance if anything in this seems particularly ignorant, I really have no idea how the lateraling process works. Technically the big law firms in my home market are ranked similarly to the summer program I am doing, if that changes anything.

Note: Yes I know it is probably not ideal that I am already thinking of wanting to lateral. However, I did not land any offers from OCI in my home market and honestly am just happy I got an offer from OCI, as it seems like it was pretty brutal for others.

They’re useless. Check chambers instead.

So if the practice group ranking for my practice area is a "band 1" then I would be in a good area for lateraling down the line?

Generally speaking, I think it’ll help when you lateral. I don’t think it makes you the most coveted lateral or anything, but it shows that you worked for some of the leaders in the field.
