Did you keep all 8 of these offers open until the decision? My school has strict rules about limiting the amount offers you can have at any time to less than 5. Wondering if other schools do the same.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 12:02 pmTo give a bit of color - T6 transfer student, corporate focus, only interviewed for NY. Did a small amount of pre oci and relatively targeted oci (only 10ish screeners).
Results: 5 offers in V10 + 3 offers in V11-20. Offers received over the course of ~2 weeks in middle/late January.
Did several 2nd looks and agonized over decision, but recently accepted one firm in early February (one of the V10s but not the highest ranked one I had offer from). I didn’t run out the clock (full 21 days) on any of my offers except one pre oci offer that expired earlier than the rest.
ETA: my sense is that most students at my school have either accepted in the past week, or will be accepting in the next week. Just based on convos and the timing of our oci back in January.
Those rules are as strict as the ones forbidding pre-OCI activities. Practically unenforceable and only serves to disadvantage the school's own students.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 7:25 pmDid you keep all 8 of these offers open until the decision? My school has a similar rule. Because of how my offers came in, I was over the threshold for about a week until I decided.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 7:25 pmDid you keep all 8 of these offers open until the decision? No one I know followed that rule. It’s a job search and not in our advantage to turn down an offer to abide by a random cut off, which is made to help career services. The rule is there because they want to maximize offers for the school and have good stats.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 7:25 pmDid you keep all 8 of these offers open until the decision? No one is deciding between 8 firms. Stop being a prick and drop some.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 10:58 amNo one I know followed that rule. Nailed it. Holding on to 8 offers, or even 5, is about ego. And it impacts others waiting nervously for an answer from their only callback. No way someone in this situation can’t figure out a few to drop. The only thing worse would be to ask for extensions beyond the expiration date.jackshunger wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 11:56 amNo one is deciding between 8 firms. What are you talking about - what advantage is there to hold onto EIGHT offers? Total lack of empathy.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 10:58 amNo one I know followed that rule. Not the 8 offer OP - I just replied saying that people holding onto offers isn't unreasonable in my POV! Either way, I can't fault someone for holding onto offers if they genuinely are considering all of the firms. They earned those offers, although hopefully people turn them down as they make decisions.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 12:02 pmNailed it. Holding on to 8 offers, or even 5, is about ego.
