3L job search vs. 2L job search differences?

Wondering if 3L job search has appreciable differences from 2L job search outside of:

#1. Much fewer seats available.
#1. Employers will probably ask why I'm trying to switch from my 2L summer.
(Please correct me if either of the two differences listed above is a misconception)

Will my 2L summer and 2L gpa have any real weight? Are there any other differences?

It's hard to overstate the two differences you mentioned. There are fewer openings, and interviewers can see through a lot of thin/bad reasons for switching firms.

Another difference, however, is that 3L positions are usually for specific practice groups. And they're usually on the corporate or transactional or tax side. So you have to think of a reason why you really want to do ERISA or capital markets or whatever, and also why you can't do it at your 2L summer firm.

I don't know if 2020/2021 was just an aberration with the COVID economic uncertainties, but I have decent T14 stats, LR, and a T50 2L SA job. I thought I'd have at least a decent shot at screeners. But I applied to maybe 30 firms and got 1 callback and no offers. Others' mileage obviously will vary.
