Top Law Schools

Obviously known for "purer" lit, but what is BSF's reorg and corporate work like, especially out of the NY office? Interested in type of clients, quality of work compared to biglaw, etc.

These days I would rather go to Fried Frank than BSF anything. Place is a disaster waiting to implode.

every time I see a Boies thread, I wonder who are these people considering BSF offers and what world do they live in? There are literally stories every month about partners (and associates) fleeing elsewhere. The only reason to go to Boies is if you literally have no other offers. That’s the answer to this thread and every other one about them.

FF is just a not-very-selective/not-very-prestigious (but decent, market-paying, and stable) NY firm.

Can anyone comment on the actual work / engagements here? I get the whole implosion point, but would like to cabin it for for purposes of discussing the practice itself

BSF for restructuring / corporate work would be a truly bizarre choice, both because of the firm's instability right now and the extremely small size of their corporate practice. If you want to know information about clients & substantive work, you'd be far better off reaching out to someone at the firm - The group is very small and I doubt anyone on here is going to know much.

BSF does not do any real corporate work. They bought in a bunch of partners who did that work a few years ago, the experiment failed, and those partners moved on to different firms. There is no corporate practice in BSF's NY office or elsewhere.

Since COVID hit last March, they have been touting a new restructuring practice, but that, too, does not actually exist. Last summer they bought in one partner who worked at Lehman to jump-start that practice, but that guy left with Gravante to Cadwalader less than 1 year into his gig at BSF. The top brass at BSF has been telling the press they are going to be ahead of the curve in doing new bankruptcy and restructuring adjacent lit work after the fallout of COVID, but it's been all talk and no real work so far.

As others here have said, you need to be real careful about considering joining BSF even if you're purely interested in litigation. It does not seem like they are getting big or splashy new matters or clients like they used to. Remains to be seen whether their generous above-market bonus this past December was a one-off to try to get people to stay, or an indication of a consistent pattern they will maintain in 2021 and beyond.
